Kim Adam is a multi-media artist, currently residing in Boulder, Colorado where she is pursuing a master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling with a concentration in Art Therapy at Naropa University. Her passion for art and the nourishing process of creating have innately functioned as a means to manage emotions, promote healing and foster growth. Prior to formally pursuing art within a therapeutic setting, Kim developed a K-12 visual arts program in conjunction with a progressive Charter School that holistically integrated its academic curriculum with social and emotional development, stressing the ideals of individual growth and development in concurrence with social and multicultural foundations. From this platform she expanded her own personal artistic endeavors and began showing others how to use art as an effective tool for healing, growth and development.
As an artist I am a storyteller. It is my goal to reach beyond what I see and evoke something deeper within, creating a resonance that speaks to the soul and spirit. I know I have done my job as the artist when the viewer feels attuned to the image. While the mediums, styles and techniques of my works have changed over the years my intent to capture a deeper essence of my subject has remained constant. Images are not stagnant. They are capable of holding fluid qualities, shifting from one meaning to another, or representing more than one meaning simultaneously. They are informative and inspiring, bridging the consciousness of our psyche to the wisdom of the unconscious. We do not own these images. Rather they present themselves, in the hope that they will be reborn into our realm so their messages can be received.
